It is the richest source of crude fiber and iron.

It contains good amount of both soluble and insoluble fiber. The content of fiber in this millet is highest compared to other millets.

Its grains possess other functional constituents i.e., Gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) and Beta glucan, used as antioxidants and in reducing blood lipid levels.

It is a gluten-free food.
