Kodo millet is a high drought-resistance crop. It is the coarsest of all food grains. It is estimated to have been domesticated in India 3000 years ago. The grain is covered with a horny seed coat which should be removed before cooking. The grain contains 8.3 percent protein, 1.4 percent fat, 65.6 percent carbohydrates, and 2.9 percent ash. The grain is recommended as a substitute for rice for patients suffering from diabetes disease.

It has high protein content (11%), low fat (4.2%) and very high fibre content (14.3%).

Kodo millet is rich in B vitamins especially niacin, pyridoxin and folic acid as well as the minerals such as calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and zinc.

It is rich in antioxidants like polyphenols.

Helps control blood sugar and cholesterol.

It contains a high amount of lecithin and is an excellent for strengthening the nervous system.
